The origin of the word traces back to the English word “partner.” Much like other Venezuelan terms born from a twist on English words—such as guachimán (watchman) or bistec (beef steak)—a unique pronunciation gave way to this beloved definition. Far from being just a sound change, “pana” captures the essence of friendship: a close bond built on trust, respect, and affection.

In the year 2000, Mauricio Meneses and Beatriz Morrison—Venezuelan professionals with extensive experience in the food and finance sectors—decided to fulfill a dream: to share the richness of Venezuelan gastronomy with the world.
During the brainstorming phase, a crucial question arose: What do we call it? They chose PANA, the colloquial term for loyalty and friendship. By adding a second “N,” they amplified its meaning and transformed it into PANNA. That was the birth of PANNA CAFÉ, a charming Latin bakery on Collins Avenue, Miami Beach. It opened its doors to those longing for a taste that reminded them of the home they loved.
